Villas under $2K new
      #139331 - 08/18/08 01:24 PM

My wife and I are planning our fifth trip to St. Barts. Tentatively scheduled for Dec. 7th through Dec. 13th. We have always had lovely stays with the Charneau's at Le Village St. Jean, but given the weak exchange rate, we are thinking of staying in a villa this time. Our searching resulted in the following properties:

Villa SIB SJA in Lorient
Villa Poiriers in Camarouche
Villa La Luna overlooking Gouverneur
Villa Bois Joli in Vitet

If anyone has any insigt on these properties it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Bill - I can't comment personally on any of the villas you mentioned but can tell you that Vitet is our favorite area on the island. Bois Joli looks basic but seems to have everything and you can bet it's private. The hillside views are wonderful in that neck of the woods and the price is sure right. I would suggest, if you don't get any hits here, you question the rental agency. We use SB Properties and they have always been extremely informative and candid about all villas they represent. Once you try a villa, you may be hooked! Good luck.

Look at Wimco SIB FOF

We really enjoyed it and it is around that price in the winter but also check on the status of construction down below on the beach at Grande Cul de Sac with the new hotel. It may be far enough away that there would not be a noise problem. otherwise jump on Bois Joli.

Just spent a week at Wimco's SIB EGR in August. Its as basic as they get, but at $1,900 until Dec 15 its a great deal. No pool, but you are on the beach at St Jean, can walk to the shops in St Jean, get pain au chocolate in the morning, have a late beer at Piement etc. It was quiet and comfortable. I haven't been there in peak season when Nikki Beach might be loud, but outside of Christmas to New Years I'm guessing its mostly quiet at night.

We stayed at Villa Villion in May and loved it. It's a newer villa, very clean, private, and it has a nice view that overlooks L'Orient Bay. It has some really beautiful furnitire that was hand-made by the owner. He's a real craftsman, and his work is amazing. The rate was $1880/week and included a car. I'm not sure if the car was included for summer months or the entire low season, but it's worth asking for.

The only problems we ran into there was the maid obviously couldn't count and kept leaving us an insufficient number of towels and washcloths, and she didn't change the sheets as often as she should have (supposed to change every other day and maybe changed every 3-4). It's not that they really needed to be changed that frequently, but it's part of the service you pay for, so you should receive it regardless. We complained alot to St. Barth Properties about this, so hopefully, they corrected it for future renters. We loved this villa and would stay there again as long as we could be assured of the linens being appropriately provided by St. Barth Properties. The villa is awesome - unfortunately, we just had a very bad maid.

Here's the link to the villa: http://www.stbarth.com/Villas/villi.shtm.
If you'd like more pictures, feel free to pm me with you e-mail address.
