Jan Cor is flying a brand new Texas flag (the old one was looking pretty ratty) by his little red shack beside the entrance to the inner harbor in Gustavia. It was brought in from Houston by the captain and crew of the sailing vessel Callisto.

Callisto,
If I've got this straight, yours is the shiny, new Texas flag on the bottom right in the photo below. Please identify the flag on the bottom left, the subject of some conjecture here on this site.
P.S. Are you captain, crew, and/or owner of the Callisto, and from where did you sail?

The red "sail" at the rear looks a bit small for a sailing vessel..

We sailed the boat from Houston several years ago but have left it in various places in and around the Eastern Caribbean for the past 8 years. Our favorite marina is Anse Marcel on the French side of St Martin. Just a 2 - 3 hour sail to St Barth. Sorry, I don't know what the red flag under the French flag is. I assumed it was some sort of French provincial flag. And no, that picture is of the OTHER Callisto, not our humble little 42' sailing ketch.

Anybody know the policy? If I would bring him a flag from the great City of Chicago, would it go up?

callisto,
Welcome to the forum. We used to leave our sailboat at Anse Marcel on St. Martin, but that's been 12 years ago. Is that the marina you mentioned?
Stay safe in this hurricane season.

Yes, it is the same marina. It used to be known as Port Lonvilliers Marina but it has recently been leased by Radison Hotels (which is owned by Carlson Marketing) and is now officially called Carlson Marina. I think most people just refer to it by it's location, Anse Marcel.
I don't think Jan will be interested in flying a Chicago flag. He used to live in Texas and that is why he flies a Texas flag. We are there quite a bit (moored in the inner harbor) and we found out who owns the little red shack (and it's associated flags) and asked him about the Texas flag and he told us that he was having trouble finding a new 3' x 5' Texas flag so we were happy to bring him one on our next trip. Look for a pretty, traditional looking ketch in the inner harbor with "Callisto" on the sail cover. That will be us. We will be back around the holidays.

callisto,
Thanks for the story. Do you have a photo of your boat you could share with us?
