With the possible exception of Andy's, I'll bet L'Isola was the only restaurant totally packed this Wednesday night in August. Two of my good friends were celebrating birthdays, so we ended up a party of ten at L'Isola from 7:30 until 10:30 during which several tables turned over more than once, and the place stayed jammed the entire evening.
The food, though small and expensive portions, was delicious. The tab for the ten of us was 470 Euros including drinks and wine. Dessert was free(see below).
The service was chaotic at best. One of our party astutely observed that the mixture of help from Italy, France, and California was not working together smoothly, if at all. Apparently the owner has two other restaurants in California from which some of the initial help has been imported. If they work out the serious kinks we observed, they should have a winner in this location. To their credit they comp'd us dessert to make up for the poor service. With a little urging, they also comp'd a nice bottle of champagne for the table.
P.S. There was no smoking anywhere that I could observe.
P.P.S. If you turn up the volume on your computer, you can hear the sound of Tim eating his words from the previous thread on this establishment, "They don't have to worry about my opening their doors. I liked this corner far better before it had a "0" in front of it and a lot of "0's" behind its monthly rent. I haven't eaten there since it was called "Bar-B-Que" and am not likely to do so in the future." One goes where one's friends want to celebrate their birthdays.
P.P.P.S. I'll try to remember to use my moderator super powers to move this thread in a day or so to the Restaurant forum where it should have been posted originally.

V,
Whether L'Isola will succeed on St. Barth is an unknown at this time. Our crowd had a good time because we enjoy each others' company. Having to chase the waiters around the restaurant to get a dinner for one of our party dampened little our high spirits.
For this week at least, L'Isola is the "In" place on St. Barth. Whether those who wish to be "In" will put up with that kind of service on a long term basis is something I can't forecast. I'm more of an "Out" kind of guy. On the other hand, perhaps L'Isola will get its act together at some point.
