A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE ASSOCIATED WITH A TROPICAL WAVE IS LOCATED OVER THE CENTRAL ATLANTIC OCEAN ABOUT 825 MILES EAST OF THE WINDWARD ISLANDS. ALTHOUGH SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY REMAINS LIMITED AT THIS TIME... ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS APPEAR FAVORABLE FOR GRADUAL DEVELOPMENT...AND THIS SYSTEM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AS IT MOVES WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT 15 TO 20 MPH.

A LARGE AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A BROAD LOW PRESSURE AREA IS CENTERED ABOUT 400 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS. THIS SYSTEM HAS BECOME A LITTLE BETTER ORGANIZED TODAY...AND A TROPICAL DEPRESSION COULD FORM DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO AS IT MOVES WESTWARD AT ABOUT 10 MPH.

I'd be curious to know what surface temps are out that way in the eastern Atlantic basin these days and how it compares to normal.....ours are way above normal right now..even with the cold front which came throgh a few days ago we are still above 70 at the surface

The Gulf water temps are way up. In the high 80's and low 90's. Not good if something comes in the Gulf. Now that I am living on the beach I have to think about it a little more. But, I have contents insurance so if it happens it happens. I could use a new wardrobe anyway. We are waiting on a big storm coming in later today. The wind is howling off the Gulf now, a sure sign of a big blow later today.

The present Sea Surface Temperature for 92L and 93L is 28C/82.4F. I don't know what the "normal" temperature is.
Weather Underground has links to Sea Surface Temperature information on their Tropical Weather page. Below the Satellite Imagery section of the page there is a long list of Helpful Online Resources. See Atlantic Hurricane Potential in the Real-time Tropical Imagery section, and the Sea Surface Temperature section.
