We are going for an extended period for the first time...staying at Emeraude Plage....is there a laundry on the island or a service to clean clothes? I don't remember seeing anything over the years .

There are several "blanchisseries" on the island. There is one in St. Jean as you are heading to Lorient. The number is 05 90 27 62 63.

Not exactly on topic, but I would appreciate you posting information about your stay at Emeraude Plage when you return. My wife and I made it our regular stay for many years beginning in the early 80's. Sadly, we haven't been back for some time now. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

I included info about laundry service in my trip report, which I posted on the Civilized Explorer list. Here's a recap: I nearly fainted when I saw what the hotel wanted to charge. I used 2 different services during my stay, one in Galleries du Commerce by the airport, the other in St. Jean near The Hideaway. Both charged 11E per load to wash and dry. They didn't fold mine, but I think that's because I asked to have it back the same day. Still a far better deal than the hotel!

Have used the laundry across from Andys for years and they never lose anything & are fairly priced. In the winter months expect to wait a few days too get anything back, very busy place

Hi Laura

Just a suggestion...I don't think there has been a trip report posted here yet so would you mind cutting/pasting and posting yours here so that people could enjoy it.

Cheri

I don't mind at all! The conversion from the "Phorum" to the e-mail list happened while I was gone, and I didn't want to step on any toes, since I enjoyed all the other trip reports on Civilized Explorer. Since you asked, and since this new forum has been duly blessed, I certainly will! :-)
