Lloyds Whale Watch new [Re: Mike R]
      #140900 - 09/08/08 11:26 AM

LLoyd just sent me a few pics from the whale watch...he had the good fortune to be on a spectacular whale watch in terms of what he got to see, weather conditions etc....and he got some magnificent pictures...one in particular is a humpback whale doing a full spinning head breach....most people miss it on the camera as we have no clue when and where its going to happen ( this is the way they were meant to be seen....in the wild... not a choreographed Sea World dog and pony show )....in this case it was a 40 foot 30 ton animal doing it about 50 feet from the boat....wow!...good work Lloyd!

3 spouts............3 whales coming at us

time to eat and go home.......

Mike, Lloyd, those are just magnificent! I would love to be on your boat one day and see that up close...just don't think I'd feel good about being in that little boat though.

Mike, you don't see that daily, do you?

Thanks for sharing those...
bev

All the credit goes to Pat.You were in the wheelhouse, so you would not have realized she took all the pictures, and many more (heck,I can't even figure out how to send them to you!!)

Hey Tim and John !!

ps Mike- no DVD from your ship's photographer yet

bev.....not daily, but fairly regularly....we just have no way of knowing when they are going to do what they do......which gives new meaning to the word "surprised' when one does something like that so close to the boat....people jump out of their skin!...LOL...most of the time they are feeding which is equally as awesome to observe......unfortunately we often get clueless people in plastic boats following us out to the whales......I've played some pretty nasty tricks on them when I'm in the mood to make a statement

Amazing-just thrilling. These took my breath away. Mother Nature is incredible and you have the photos to prove it. Phil and I were at Toiny one March afternoon, about 3 years ago, when a pod of 10 or so whales cruised by. We watched from a spot next to the frog statues, but it was not as close up and personal as this adventure. Thanks for sharing.

bev.....you are only going to see them down there in the winter...they go down to the warmer waters to breed ( dont we all??...LOL ) and give birth.....than they migrate up here to New England to feed in spring, summer, and early fall ( they are just about ready to skidaddle outta here now )...the "hot spot" for seeing whales off St Barts is the deep water between St Barts and Isle Forchue - looking north

thanks, Mike, I'll keep that in mind....I've always wanted to go out on a whale watch...those pics are really amazing...you can watch all this on TV but to see it in person....gotta be amazing.
