We enjoyed a lovely first time visit here last night...We both had the tuna dish...our teenagers each had a pizza (and couldn't finish it), cod fritters, one salade, one glass of wine, a bottle of water...86 euros...We were the only people in the restaurant until we finished and one other party arrived but the place was very nice and the food was delish.

We enjoyed two wonderful dinners at Les Bananiers last month. The first night was salad and excellent pizza followed by coconut flan and warm chocolate cake, the second evening was fois gras for Michael, a delicious salad for me and we both had impeccable risotto (carbs be damned), followed by dessert of the day - an exotic fruit tart. Though not crowded there were several tables of locals. The food was fresh, the service superb, the ambience quiet and pretty, with the lights of SXM in the distance it made for two memorable meals.

Gayle,
I have trouble remembering what I ate yesterday, much less a month or more ago. I know that our friend Kevin keeps a journal of his meals. Do you also keep a journal, or is your memory just that good?

I don't keep a journal...ask Michael about this. It's a running joke the infinitesimal things I remember. I can tell you what he was wearing when I met him 26 years ago too, as well as many memorable meals and moments. I know, I know, it's weird...maybe 'cause I work with details all day long. I dunno.

And they mean it about the reservations. As Bananier has been mostly empty in our experience, we just 'showed up' for the moules last Saturday, and were turned away, but very nicely. We did get reservations for the following night and had a wonderful time.Cecilia from Italy is another reson to frequent le Bananier. She has a very dry wit and super friendly.

I had to retrieve my trip report but this is what I said in February-
"Le Bananiers- very nice grilled rib eye with peppercorn mustard sauce for me and escargots for Phyl, accras all around and a 1 kilo lobster for Joe.- 50 euros- a great deal"

In December we particularly enjoyed the rack of lamb with garlic mashed potatoes.I'm a big fan of Wall House and we dine there twice per visit, but the Bananier rack of lamb was superior the the Wall House version I had several days later.Last week I had the steak with peppercorn sauce and it also was very good. The specials are something too look out for and I'm sorry I missed the moules et frites last Saturday.
