Check out this spectacular Villa located near Little Dix Bay in Virgin Gorda. I was attracted to this place by an ad for BVI in the Boston Sunday Globe some weeks ago. Looks like a Caribbean dream hideaway!

I've been thinking of that for awhile. Scubamom reviews it at http://www.scubamom.com/bvi-resorts/greathouse/. Scubamom seems to nearly always give good advice from previous experience.

I saw that bay about 13 years ago and it was stunningly beautiful.

Hi Steve. I forgot to post the web site for Katitche Point Greathouse as follows: www.katitchepoint.com. This place looks amazing! When I saw the picture in the paper I called the BVI tourst board and was told that the villa was over the top in every respect. I was blown away by the views. Another place where you can unwind in Virgin Gorda is Little Dix Bay, a lush tropical resort that knocks your socks off--totally relaxing with a gorgeous beach lined with beautiful palm trees. You want to pinch yourself because you can't believe it's so beautiful. It is!

Go Pats!!!

Ken,

This is a perfect location on Virgin Gorda and Regine is very nice. I watched it being built over a couple of visits and it really is something (for this island). Like SBH it is not "on" the beach but right next to Savannah and Pond to one side and Mahoe on the other. Plus you are right in the middle of the island so getting to North Sound or down to the Valley is easy.

Not sure if you have the web site so here it is:
http://www.katitchepoint.com/ Another fine web site designed by Lynn McKamey, aka 'Scuba Mom' who is an avid traveler with a brilliant business plan!

Even though Joe and Eva are not running "Spice" I would say to have a sail on that wonderful vessel if at all possible. I have sailed on Spice down to Cooper and back then another time over to Anegada. From Regine you can reach them at: Chris or Sarah, phone #1-284-495-7688, email spicebvi@surfbvi.com

I usually fly in from SJU to the Virgin Gorda airport (dirt runway, sweeps the landing area of goats!).

It is quite a shame that Drake's Anchorage is not open for a visit/dinner. That was THE place that lured me to the Caribbean a little more than ten years ago (okay, that isn't a long time for most of you guys but I am only at 34 years myself..I see it as finding paradise at an early age...)

Stuff to do besides the beach: rent a dingy for a "dingy day or half day" which is so much fun in the North Sound...as long as the water is not too rough. Great snorkeling around Eustatia Sound. Head down to the Copper Mine and explore...but be careful. I used to explore all around the South Sound area and I know that Thorsten built a house on the land. Really considered buying one of those lots but realized there were other places I wanted to explore and didn't want to be tied down. Spring and Trunk bays are very nice and you can avoid the Baths crowd. If Monica from Chez Bamboo is cooking anywhere on the island I would have dinner there. She may still be helping get started at the Fat Virgin, but that's been a while.

I have only stayed on Mahoe Bay and always loved every trip. Any other questions let me know. Best regards, Erma

Ken:

Little Dix certainly has its charms, but I'm partial to Biras Creek. Much more intimate and I think you get a lot more for the money (Biras and Little Dix are similar in price, although Biras may be a little cheaper).

Both are beautiful of course.

The VG landing thus far has been my most exciting. Saturday, I'll be able to compare it with the SBH landing. I was told (not sure if there's any truth) that the day they opened the VG airport, the whole island came over to watch the first plane land. It's an odd approach in that the pilot must bank left nearly until the wheels touch. Anyway, they had put a banner across the runway welcoming the first plane and while taxiing down the runway after touching down, the plane hit the banner and flipped over!

Steve,

We have never vacationed at Biras Creek, however, our friends have and really liked the experience. I checked out ScubaMom's reviews on this place and then looked at their web site--very, very nice!

I'm not sure that I'd like to fly to VG in a small plane. When we went to Little Dix we took the complementary boat ride from Tortola and were blown away as we approached the beach. It was drop dead gorgeous. We had lunch and a pina colada near the pier and I remember the feeling of total relaxation. You know how it sometimes takes 1-2 days to unwind and get down. Well, I can tell you that our stress level fell from a 9+ down to a minus 5 as soon as we arrived. You just sort of melt as that euphoric feeling takes over. You can probably tell that I have not been away for a while--my imagination is in hyper mode. Anyway, my wife and I look forward to our first trip to St. Barth's. I'm not sure when that will be but I hope soon.

I'm glad to have found this web site. Congrats to Kara and Robert Brooks for their motivation and hard work in putting this together. It is certainly a very active community of SB devotees and everything I've read about St. Barth's is superlative. Sounds like the ultimate Caribbean hideaway. Enjoy your vacation in paradise on Saturday. Take care.

Ken

My first and best scuba experience was in BVI with a compnay called Dive BVI. They were absolutely fantastic in every respect. They even had great t-shirts. I very, very highly recommend them (I'm assuming that they are still in business) and diving in general in the BVI. Also, BVI outlawed jet skis and it is surprising how much more peaceful things are due to that law.

Less than 2 days to my first SBH trip and I'll be very interested in how it compares to BVI, SVG, and Anguilla.
