As I said before, as an experiment I used only the camera on my phone, and mostly automode -flash. I'm glad I didn't have an extra gadget around my neck, and I didn't have time for manuals. So here it goes: Catania, the Duomo Ortigia, Siracusa, parking Ortigia, Ordinary alley Ortigia, Olives at the market Ortigia, Looking up We made it a day just to explore the small island. We walked every street, every piazza, every alley. Peaked into courtyards and cul de sacs. Shopped some wine and pasta. And everywhere it was, the sweet scent of fresh laundry... I will always associate Sicily with baroque balconies and newly done laundry! Akraï, the greek theatre 600 BC Taormina, the silver corner Taormina, San Guiseppe, A candle for DebTor, and everyone else who's life has been affected by cancer Taormina, Nutella rocks, big time Sweden, November, Monday morning, going to work Want more? I took about 550 pics... In addition to these ten, there is a set on Flickr . At the moment there is 30, but I will upload more. One of my favorites Highlight of the day: the Duomo. It is absolutly beautiful. And if you look at postcard pictures, you should know that the baroque facade is just a facade. The real ancient church/temple is inside - and visible from the outside as well. Resting your hand at one of the columns from a far distant millenium - awesome... The Duomo was built in the 7th century over the great Temple of Athens (5th century BC). The façade was rebuilt by Andrea Palma in 1725–1753. MikeR, I do wish you could go back soon. It is beautiful. I am saving my two bottles of Donnafugata, some sundried tomates and a salsiccia for a special meal with friends. I know Sicily is in their dreams too. Bev, it's a Nokia N95. I've had it a couple of months, but not until this trip have I really used the camera. For a phonecamera, it's good, I think. The pics will be even better when I bother to use the finesses like white balance and stuff. In time I will also be better at handling the cameraphone, using the right angle. Some pics were slanted and had weird perspective. One big drawback though, if I am trying to take a picture in bad lighting, it takes forever before the camera lets me squeeze off. I attended a 50th birthday party tonight, and used the camera a lot. Sometimes I just wanted to scream at it - I know it's gonna be a crappy picture, I want it anyway, just take it! In better light, no problem. It's not as fast as the only-cameras, but what can you expect from a phonecamera? A word of caution to those who use phonecameras (you have probably already experienced this) - be careful working with the pics on the phone/memory card before making copies. I was flipping through the days pics, trowing some, rotating some. The phone rang - and the picture I was currently rotating got messed up. Not possible to open the file anymore. Since I have 549 others, no harm done. But good to know so you don't mess up the perfect pic - edit with phone in offline mode or do it on the computer!
