Thanksgiving in NYC new
      #113463 - 11/04/07 09:41 AM

We will be spending 3 days in NYC during Thanksgiving--Wednesday-Friday. Can anyone offer any experience/advice about the parade? Is it possible to see it without staking a place on the sidewalk at 6 AM? What about the night before when they inflate the parade balloons? I've heard this is fun thing to check out.

We'll be staying at the New York Athletic Club on Central Park South near 7th Ave.

Thanks!

You can easily walk uptown to the inflation site along CP West. Definitely do this if you can. it's the NYer thing, the backstage view if you will, not the tourist thing. If you're in early wednesday, can also take the kids to the Museum of Natural History, which is right in the middle of the inflation action.

Might want to ask the folks at the NYAC about viewing sites...they may be on the route, since the parade comes down CPW and then to 7th south to Times sq...

Be advised...last year TG was an ugly, cold, windy and rainy day. My wife's office overlooks Times Sq @ 43rd st, and the firm opens it on TG day for employees and fam...catered b-fast, the whole 9 yards...it was the first time i've ever seen the parade live, and believe me, being indoors made all the difference in the world.

Also, the NYPD sets up barricades to pedestrian access with no particular rhyme or reason...so you may not be able to cross some streets, enter some subway stations, etc etc...so, don't plan on getting around during the parade....I don't think you'll need to be out there at 6AM to get a good spot, but once you find one you like, plan on staying there.
Ask the NYAC. It's not their first time doing this...LOL

anything else? send me a PM, I'm happy to help.

I go for the chip clips....
