Ric - thanks for the info. Now that you mention it, we were on Grenada when that hit...just skirted there but we were holed up in our room and a little scared to say the least. I had forgotten about that. We are high up in Vitet but I'm praying that this "busy storm season" allows us to be in peace and quiet from Sept. 29-Oct.13. These "disturbances" keep coming it seems so I hope things calmed down a bit later this month!

SBH is a very tiny little spot in the Eastern Caribbean...hard to hit it, and the storms generally begin to subside by October. You will most likely be fine.

Ric Seles, So this isn't your place? Drove by it today...was told it was hurricane proof.

Mike,
Nope, not mine...Fred Flintstones.
Two of those were built on Sullivans following Hurricane Hugo, for a son and his father who moved here from California. Very unsightly, they would never be approved today by Architectural Review.
What are you doing here?

It is an ugly looking place. I wonder what it looked like on the water side of the house...not many windows on the inland side.
We are down here for a long weekend visiting old UNC friends. Very nice area...got the grand tour yesterday. Ate breakfast at Sea Biscuit and dinner at Poogan"s Porch. Today going to Middleton...forgot the name of the restaurant for tonight.

Not a bad day I'd say.
The other side of the Flintstone's Dome has more windows & a narrow deck that is about 35' long curving around the house...still an eyesore. My house survived Hugo without hardly any damage ($20k or so), mostly to the pool, plants, trees, etc. So, don't build too close to the dunes, don't build stupid, use maintenance free materials that windstand high windspeeds & use big, fat wooden pilings cause concrete breaks.
Have a big time.
