Guadeloupe new

Hi all...we are on our way to st barts in May(very excited)..Going to stay in Guadeloupe for 4 nights along the way.Thinking of staying at Habitation Grand Anse on Basse Terre...anyone have any input?...Any suggestions on the best way to go about a car rental would be appreciated also...The hotel is willing to set up a rental car for 35 euro per day,which seems reasonable.However they are asking for 53 euro each way for airport transfer which seems high.would like to rent a car at the airport and drive ourselves...bad idea?Thanks again for any help at all

you should have no problem renting a car and driving yourselves around guadeloupe, the roads are in good condition and there are many appealing places to visit.
