My Comcast e mail service blocks all incoming e mail from anyone with an address ending in "wanadoo.fr" due to the amount of spam they receive from that area. I didn't realize this until I tried to contact friends in St. Barth who received my message but got blocked when they tried to respond. Wanadoo is a provider for many on St. Barth, and that might explain why some of us don't receive replies from car or villa rental requests, etc. In my conversation today with the abuse prevention folks at Comcast, they told me how I could release the block but said that the block would be reactivated from time to time. My communications with my gardener, which I thought could be simply handled by e mail, are going to be much more complicated.

Tim, I don't think Comcast should block email you need to receive. I get wanadoo mail, and certainly don't get a lot of spam from there. Sounds like a crock, to me. But, if you have your gardener, etc. set up a gmail, or hotmail account, they'll be able to contact you.

Change e-mail service, blocking a domain for spam isn't what you're supposed to do in 2008.

Wanadoo seems to be on everybody's sh** list these days. Same for Comcast. Many of our friends in France have switched to gmail (I have no personal experience with them, but friends' email get through.)

Kara,
After reading that article, I'm expecting a message any minute from Mr. Eliasen and am waiting beside my computer. :-)

The big one is the Comcast Center- that's what I look at everyday. The devil lives there. LOL

Love it...online document storage with real time, sharable editing capabilities? What's not to love? Google hasn't taken over my life yet (Like Apple and one of our moderators...) but I can see it happening. Cloud computing is the (current) wave of the future....

I'm a Google fan and use it to consolidate and spam-prevent all of my various email addresses. Like Apple (see) there is great integration among the products and nice integration with Apple (see again).

I also CANNOT wait for Verizon to get to Manhattan with FIOS....Time-Warner Cable borders on incompetent, constantly have to re-boot the HD DVR/ cable box, and the customer service people, (and yes, I know they make $3 an hour...) are useless.
A little competition is always good....the current monopoly behaves like one.
At the beach we've got Dish Network...annoying interface/dashboard is reminiscent of an 80's Atari video game. We pop back and forth from them to direct TV whenever one of them pisses us off, but depending on your living situation, you Comcast victims may want to just hang a satellite dish on the south side of the house and be done with it.
