I think you are correct. If Josephine speeds up they could join. I don't have any beach left to give up here.

Well, Ike isn't gonna catch Hanna and I doubt Josie is going to catch Ike. But Florida may take it on the chin three in a row 2 to 3 days apart at this rate.

There's actually a name for the interaction between two storms. Wikipedia has an article on the Fujiwhara Effect .

More info from Dr. Jeff Masters' blog on Weather Underground:
Quote:
Many readers have asked if Hanna and Ike could collide and make a super hurricane. Well, hurricanes cannot collide to make a bigger hurricane. When hurricanes get within about 900 miles of each, they begin to interact. There are three possible outcomes:
1) The larger storm will destroy the smaller one. The larger storm's upper-level outflow will bring hostile wind shear over the smaller storm, and the larger storm may steal the smaller storm's moisture. This occurred in 2005, when Hurricane Wilma destroyed Tropical Storm Alpha over Hispaniola.
2) Both hurricanes will compete for the same energy, resulting in weakening of both storms.
3) The storms will rotate around a common center of rotation (the Fujiwhara Effect), before going on their separate ways. Hurricane Humberto and Hurricane Iris took part in a brief Fujiwhara interaction in 1995. Iris then began interacting with a third storm, Tropical Storm Karen, which orbited and later merged with the more intense Iris. In cases, the two storms will merge, such as occurred in 1997 in the Pacific with Typhoon Yule and TD 16W.
Sometimes, a recurving hurricane will leave behind an enhanced trough of low pressure that will act to help recurve the storm behind it along the same path. This is possible this week with Ike and Hanna.

PS: Tina didn't think much of Ike either!

Right now it is all up in the air. I have not purchsed the fight, going to be last minute. I have a place set up for the 16th, but can change dates if need be. As it is now I am just waiting on clear weather to be able to leave. I am good with any date until it hits the change to high season on the island. If you go we may be able to have a drink. But there is no end in sight with these storms. June may be my next trip afterall.

Speaking of IKE...been routing my flights to the Caribbean around him all day..The Turks and Caicos are going to take a direct hit later tonight..The latest track we were given shows it heading out into the Gulf Monday with a path toward the Gulf Coast yet again..Of course a lot can change in the next 48 hrs but all our friends along the Gulf Coast and NOLA need to keep an eye on this one...

I thought I would suprise Karen with the news and she threw me a curve ball. It seems she may be changing jobs into a new school district and they don't take a week break in Oct. I ask if I could go alone .......... she didn't laugh or smile.

I know tha NOAA is showing this bad boy going to the central Texas coast but when I watch the www.intellicast.com loop it sure looks like it's leaning toward LA. or the La. / TX. boarder area.

I just spoke with my Mom & Dad in Houston. They are staying put but Galveston is being evacuated.
One of my brothers and one of my sisters live within 2 minuites of my folks so if things get pretty bad, they'll all huddle together at my brothers house. They are going to get the "dirty" side of the storm...the windy side.
I offered them a RT ticket to Chicago for the weekend but they hate flying...

my mom, my then 2 year old daughter, and i rode out hurricane alicia in 1983 in our home in galena park, texas just east of houston. we ended up all huddled together in a hall closet as a huge tree ripped an entire side of our house off. that was not fun. my daughter, now 27, doesn't remember, but i surely won't forget!
i will pray for their safety, dennis!

I got food poisioning from the Lone Star Cafe right after Alicia. Also got engaged that weekend at Vargo's. Not all of any hurricane is bad. That said I'm trying to talk my brother to come to Big D for the weekend.

Thanks, LC!
I lived with my not quite yet first wife near Antoine and W. Little York in '83. Got up to go to work. Showered, dressed, etc. Stephanie kept asking where I thought I was going. I was younger and waaaaay more dedicated then. As soon as I opened the front door, I turned around. YIKES! No power or water for 3 days. People selling bags of ice for $10 bucks, getting arrested by the cops for gouging. Going down to the apt. pool for buckets of water so we could flush. GOOD TIMES!

i have friends who have boarded up their beach house in galveston and plan to ride it out in their home in clear lake which is just north of galveston. i love my friends, but i think their decision is stupid!
stores around the area are all closing. she went to pick up something from sears and they were closed!
i predict it be a direct hit on galveston. i hope i'm wrong and will gladly admit it if i am!

Seek high ground and curl up with a copy of ISAAC'S STORM by Erik Larson-about the storm that hit Galveston September 8, 1900. Now Hurricane Ike is gathering strength and could be another hit on that city. For those in the path of this latest storm, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

man oh man this has potential to really do some damage.....if Ike lands just enough west of Galveston which would put a surge into and up the Houston Ship Channel....with as low as all that land from Galveston through Texas City and Clear Lake is.....yikes.....this storm is going to hit where the nations largest refinery is ( in Baytown ).....the best thing to happen to them is the storm either hits directly, or a little to the east....west will be very bad

Although the link below are instructions from a Cuban-American living in south florida, it is a check list that may help any of you faced with preparing for Ike who have never had hurricane experience before.

City/county officials in Houston and Harris County are telling residents to "hunker down." This may wind up being much ado about nothing, but somehow I don't think so.
Storm surge is predicted at Galveston above 20 feet. That alone will top the seawall built as a response to the 1900 disaster that almost completely destroyed what at that time was one of the largest cities in the state. The surge in parts of Galveston Bay may reach of over 22 feet. Waves of up to 50 feet are already being recorded on bouys in the Gulf of Mexico. As the water gets more shallow the intensity of the wave action will increase. The kinetic energy of the storm surpasses that of Katrina when it made landfall. Hurricane and tropical storm force winds each extend almost double the distance from the center as in typical Atlantic storms.
Approximately 25% of the nation's refining and chemical production lies in Ike's path. Damages estimates are already being predicted to top over $20 billion. By comparison, Alicia in 1983 was one of the most destructive storms in history at that time and the damage was "only" $2 billion.
I am trying desperately to get my family still there to leave. If you know anyone there, you should try to get them to do the same.
