The Dream Hotel
      #27740 - 02/16/05 07:00 PM

I have a quick trip to New York next week on business and our office has booked us at "The Dream" on West 55th near 7th Avenue. I've never heard of the hotel -- any thoughts?
Thanks!

It opened this past October and sounds funky (I remember reading about it in the NY Times). I'd love to hear what you think of it.

Never stayed at the Dream, but if you have time, stroll through the Plaza Hotel, and have a drink in the Oak Room in the late afternoon, because the doors close Apr.1st, and the Plaza Hotel as we have always known it, will close its doors and be become retail stores and condominiums.(as if Time Warner weren't enough)
There is also a nice, convenient little restaurant on 55th and 6th called "Castellano's" is casually elegant, very good italian. NY Pops may also be at Carnegie Hall on a Friday nite, which is right around the corner.
Have fun, NYC is the best!

I take it that was before the snow turned into its usual shades of brown, black and yellow ????

Had a nice day and night in New York. The Dream Hotel is much as described, with some floors still under construction. The murals are provacotive and sexy. The rooms are tiny, but I understand that goes with the territory. The only real negative was the service. Maybe they're too new. I am not very demanding, but it was tough to get a cab (we asked if they could help and they said "Of course" but after five minutes or so the doorman suggested that we just try our luck around the corner) -- and in the morning when I went downstairs in search of coffee before meeting a friend for breakfast, I asked if there were any coffee available that I could take to the room, they said: "In one of our cups?" And I could not get the room below 81*. Not quite Toiny!

I saw the gates last weekend, yes very impressive! It was the busiest i've ever seen central park , and it was 29 degrees! I was frozen, but I had to keep on going, and now that there is yet another fresh layer of snow on the ground, should be really cool to check out.
