Sounds like a plan. What is the name of that restaurant outside of New Bedford that is supposed to have great seafood? It is a Chris Schlesinger restaurant.

I believe that you are referring to Back Eddy in Westport, down near Horseneck Beach - but Chris Schlesinger isn't there anymore.

I am newbie to you guys, but I think my husband and I would fit in fine. We are on the Vineyard from 7/2-7/16, but we could easily do a day trip or a weekend--or a day in August when my boss disappears for a month and I take over and life is simple!

well maybe the third week of July..Im going to be in P Town, running a fishing boat, and living on a boat in the harbor from about right after the 4th til about mid August...not sure if I will have a car...you really dont need one in P Town if you have a bike which I do....but I may get a car from a friend in Providence..and Wendi wil be down mid week, every week, in which case I will then have a car...but she will be at the shops up in New Hampshire Friday til Monday

I'm willing to try P-town. I'll just need to track down a hotel room somewhere on that end of the cape. Should be doable somewhere between Chatham and P'town - I hope.

of course you will fit in.....and if you dont....so what?....we can possibly arrange it so that we get together as you are returning from the Vineyard..which will make it easy for you guys...we can also maybe do a dinner in Hyannis...I know a couple of great restaurants there for us to indulge ourselves in...but if you ve never been to P Town...well.....its as unique as unique gets...a wild and crazy town for sure in the summer

MikeR--we are totally flexible so whatever everyone else wants, we can probably accomodate. I work at BC, so summers are much more flexible than the school year--too many damn sporting events--ok, we I love most of them, but I spend WAY to much time on campus! My brother-in-law has a condo in Hyannis and my in-laws rent in Chatham so we are all over there all summer and PTown could be fun too.
Two days to SBH--hope we can get out!

Halsam..well I certainly wont complain if everyone comes to P Town....I'l set everything up if we go that route....but if people are coming from the Vineyard maybe Hyannis would be a better deal for us all...Im thinking the third week of July....if we do Hyannis I would suggest the Roadhouse Cafe...great food and atmosphere.....if its in P Town, either Bubalas by the Bay ( my second home ...LOL) or Front Street....Obviously we wouldnt want to do anything either Friday night or Sunday night so as not to deal with traffic....I'm going to be doing sunrise and sunset fishing trips with the day off in between so if its a dinner deal instead of a lunch deal I need to make arrangements to not be on the boat that day.....I guess everyone else should weigh in here and lets come up with something concrete

Hey, Mike:
Whatever--I used to commute from Providence to Boston every day, so driving for me is not a problem. We are off tomorrow--after one storm after another, we are soo ready--I have your restaurant recommendations in hand and look forward to trying the places we haven't been. I'll let you know how we make out--thanks!

ok..here is my suggestion for the SBH online get together....I need to get on this as I will be on internet silence for most of June, July, and August unless I can find an internet cafe...
Bubalas by the Bay - http://www.bubalas.com/index.html
either Saturday July 16th or Sunday July 17th...dinner @ 8pm
this was my home away from home when I lived there fulltime and I can vouche for the joint in food, ambience and general craziness......the owners and staff are all good friends of mine ..it will be a hoot...if this sounds good, as soon as I get a specific number of participants....I will make the reservation

ok...so if I had half a brain I'd be a halfwit...why you ask??...because as I was talking to Wendi last night about things in general, I asked her if she would be able to get covereage at the shops and come down to the Cape the weekend of July 17th to attend a possible SBHONLINE get together........and she had a look of both bewilderment and horror on her face as I was mentioning this..
so I said.."what??????..whats the problem??..why are you looking at me that way???"
and she took a very deep breath, and looked at me in amazement, and said..."Its your daughters second birthday you dumbass!!....remember??....party....clowns...friends and family....I'm baking a "Barney" cake....you re SUPPOSE to be coming up to New Hampshire??!!"
"uhhhhhhh.....yeah.....right.....gotcha..I knew that...I was just testing you".....gulp
anyway..long and short of it is I need to propose this get together for the following Saturday night...July 23rd..
OK??????
sorry..............

Hey Mike,
That's actually better for us. We will have our two beagles in MV and it is easier to get sitters in Needham than in MV. Count my husband Dan and me in...I have been a little quiet lately because I am finishing some coursework for a degree, which thankfully is done next week, but would love to meet all and talk about SB and anything else that pops up--thanks for getting this together!

Hey, MikeR,
We are in--Hallie and Mr. Hallie, aka Dan--are we still doing Bubba's? Also, we might be interested in making it a weekend and doing the fishing trip with my brother-in-law, another BC grad who is a fishing nut. Are you going out that weekend?

Hallie..great!!...yes we are doing Bubala's...a great place..good food...on the water....an insane crowd is usually there...a good friend of mine owns it and half my 1998 Final Four basketball team are the waiters and cooks.... and on Saturday night there is usually a pretty good jazz trio playing in the inside dining room..it will be a hoot..check out the link to it that I posted....the menu is on there too
I dont know my boat schedule yet....I've asked for weekends off so if Im needed at the shops in NH I can zoom up there and help out...and I better not have a trip that day or I will miss the dinner as I usually do the sunset trips for Striped Bass and Bluefish...but if you stay the weekend and I have a trip the next day you guys can come on board with me and be my guest...its a 50 passenger boat
you had better get a room now of you are staying overnight..P Town is usually booked up to or near capacity for all of July and August..I can tell you whats good and whats not if you start looking

Alrighty now....I leave bright and early Tuesday morning for the Cape and I think I gave everyone attending the SBH gathering on Saturday July 23rd my cell phone number as my internet capabilites will be greatly diminished while there....sooooooo.....if there is anyone else wanting to attend this gala event that will no doubt be talked about in the society pages for years to come....let me know either today or tomorrow...after that you will have to get my cell phone number from Hallie or Lloyd or KevinS to let me know you are coming so that I can change the reservation...but as of now....its for 10 people at 8 o'clock at Bubala's by the Bay, located on the west end of Commercial Street, on the water in P Town .....it is one of the few restaurants on Commercial Street with on site parking and Kevin, based on where you are staying, it is a nice walk that I would recommend doing rather then drive....you will pass my old deli and house along the way and that is the halfway point of the walk....see everyone there, and hopefully we can eat clams by then, but, from what I hear, I doubt it :-((((

Mike -
The red tide is moving out. Shellfish grounds are reopening, but, if in doubt, that good Canadian shellfish from PEI is available. I should check - I must have a cousin, a niece, or a nephew who is "in the business".
Kate and I are locked and loaded for the 23rd.
And, if you want to go and you can't find Lloyd, then let me know...

Kevin..God bless the PEI!..I had a huge bowl of PEI mussels tonight.. got them from a restauranteur here in town, steamed them up in white wine and shallots and garlic and a bay leaf, then when they were done I added a touch of heavy cream to the broth and served them up in a bowl with that callaloo broth they cooked in and cream...threw in some freshly roasted fennel root bulb...got a hunk of french bread for dipping.....some Pouilly Fume in a glass.....to die for!!!.....great to hear about beds reopening..I would be as happy as a clam ( no pun intended )....if I can get a big ol plate of raw Wellfleet Oysters and a pitcher of beer tomorrow night for my first Cape dinner of the year.....see you there

ok .....final check on everyone meeting at Bubalas by the Bay next Saturday...I would suggest we meet at the bar at 7:45..our dinner reservation is at 8....parking is on site....for those who havent met me yet I will wear either my Carib beer shirt or a St Barts shirt of some sort..dress is definetly casual..the white pants, pastel shirt crowd hangs out in Chatham and Hyannis, not P town....only the drag queens dress up to the teeth here...LOL..the street performers have been unusually good this summer..mimes and musicians....so maybe coming early and walking Commercial St would be a good idea....if for any reason you cant make iit, please call me...I dont want to tie up a big table on a Saturday night needlessly....these guys who own the restaurant and work there are all good friends of mine and they know I know better then to do that.....
Hallie..I do have a trip Sunday morning ( 8 AM )..these trips usually sell out ( 40 people ) so let me know if you want me to save you some spaces...fishing has been good....some nice big striped bass
Kevin...either get on Cape early Friday or late as the backup to get over the bridges is usually many, many miles between 4 and 8 pm ...if you get in early friday and want to meet me for a pop call me...I'm off the boat usually by 6
see you all next week...
I'm off to Bubalas now to partake in Saturday night madcaps and mayhem...ciao
