ok boys and girls this is what I am proposing.......the Summer Carnival we have in town is during the third week in August....the Parade itself is on a Thursday....so I am proposing doing the 4th annual SBHOnline get together during that week....either the day before or the day after the Parade......our Carnival and Parade is like nothing else you will ever see anywhere ...nothing even comes close...here is a peek into some of what goes on and this is the tamer stuff...
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=r7HfYxF5ttE
how many traffic cops in your town direct traffic this way?
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=vp4SinSVFAM&feature=related
anyway weigh in on what you think about that time period...we can't work it around Buffett this year as he is coming after Labor Day and I will be gone...so if this doesnt work...shoot out some ideas...I've had some interest from people on the forum coming from a distance so the earlier we can nail this down...the better for them
as usual there will be a harbor cruise with drinks and apps, followed by a dinner somewhere

Mike,
We'll take you up on it, Buddy---count Caroline and I IN, after final clearance from her schedule.
Should not be a problem this far out..unless this new Doc who is supposed to start in July 1 on her staff gets killed in Iraq, prior to the end of his Army Reserve tour sometime in June.
Someone tell me, what are we doing over there anyway? Better yet, no..
Looks like fun!
We'll fly to BOS and rent a car for the long weekend.
Want the ENTIRE P-Town experience: hiking along the dunes, Captain Miker's boat, dining on NE seafood, parade, jazz, and of course the beach.
It's unfortunate, but we'll miss that whole "Parrothead" scene, maybe some other time?

Not certain we could keep up with those folks and I wonder how they all feel the next day?

look at taking the puddle jumper from BOS to P Town and renting a car in P Town...the drive from BOS to P town has no redeeming value....tons of traffic.... a 125 mile U shaped two hour drive when the roads are clear....the flight is 20 minutes ...straight line....25 or so miles

Hey Jeff- you do not- do not- want to drive from Logan Airport to P-town. It will take you hours of grief. In addition to the puddle jumper, there is a fast Ferry- 90 minutes- from Boston to P-Town.

Andy and Mike.
Thanks for the tips---my preference to fly or take the ferry.
strike the phrase: "puddle jumper" as an old air charter guy---crews HATE that, it's: "commuter/or non-sked airline service"
I'm not into traffic, but aren't you guys married??
Seems Caroline has an old residency friend with an Internal Medicine practice in Yarmouth, who lives in W. Dennis, near Hyannis? You know, stop in, old times. She never reads this and would kill me, but MD's are not very interesting conversationalists, especially when together, I have found... also someone else may meet us for dinner in the N.End of Boston? Don't they have great pasta there?
I've only been to a weekend party and a wedding, classy affairs on what I remember as uptight button downed Nantucket and Martha's with an old girlfriend--waspy types from CT and RI, flew in, I remember PSA in so I don't know that area.
If she says---I'll be there with a big smile. They can show me what's wrong with their house or something, I think it's near the harbor?
looking forward to this...
thanks Mike, miss you (again) Andy.

Yarmouth/Hyannis is 45 minutes away...we are at the very end of the Cape........you want great pasta and such you go to Little Italy in the North End....not South City

also if you need help figuring out a place to stay...let me know

Thanks, sounds like we'll all be in excellent hands.
Kevin? We have some regular villa guests from BOS that I will invite as well.
Re-read the note---it's a place in the N end of Boston, supposed to have the best Calzone...I will have to get these details perfectly clear before the trip.

We haven't missed one yet, do we'll probably be there. I'll wait a few days to be sure that the date is going to stick before I make a hotel reservation.

Jeff- you are going to a place in Boston just to have calzone? Tell me you are kidding. Boston has some of the best restaurants around. Bag the calzone.

Checking schedules we may be that first night in BOS so looking forward to some excellent Italian on the NEnd--last time there in the late 80's was the best I have ever had.
As it gets closer I will rely on my friends who know the area to direct us (and others from the forum) properly--thanks.

North End???..you ve come to the right place....and I'm a harsh critic of Italian food by virtue of being raised on it...from scratch
but these are good....
Artu Trattoria.......small little local joint...I have never had a bad meal here....its off the beaten path a little on Prince Street - just off Hanover....always my first choice http://www.artuboston.com/
Giacomos......great place...cash only ( what does that tell you ? ...if you dont know, I'll explain it in PM )...LOL...huge lines out the door usually so get there early
on Hanover Street
Cantina Italiano....also on Hanover St. right by Giacomos....a great local place...one of the North End originals http://www.cantinaitaliana.com/
Piccola Venzia http://www.piccolaveneziaboston.com/ ...small local joint on Hanover.....good food...havent been there in quite some time...but it always delivered a great meal
this is the ONLY place to go for pizza in the North End
http://pizzeriaregina.com/
for dessert....go to either Cafe Vittoria http://www.vittoriacaffe.com/ or Mikes Pastry http://www.mikespastry.com/specialties.html ....both are a very short walk away from all three restaurants....
I think you know me well enough to know I'm not going to go to a foo foo Italian place which takes a simple dish like pasta marinara and gives a fancy name, puts it on a fancy plate, and charges an arm and a leg for it..
those places are good old fashion Italian restaurants which went in business first and foremost to feed the locals.,..not the tourists...and their food reflects that......good...fresh...unpretentious....and done right..
thats pretty much our routine when we are in the North End
not far from all this in the East End is this place:
http://www.santarpiospizza.com/
fabulous pizza and they do Lamb and Sausage ka bobs on an open fire which are to die for....

Jeff, if you do visit friends in W.Dennis, have them take you to the Ocean House for dinner. Very nice and consistent.
Link
Or for excellent Italian and some of the best pasta I have ever had try Abbicci.

Thanks---really looking forward to it. Revised plan...looks like we will just fly to BOS spend the night, cab into the N.End (I'm expecting some REAL good Italian) then hop the early ferry or flight to P.Town.
