Scourge of the subway: MANSPREADING!

This response may be somewhat off topic, but I had a recent experience in which people also seemed to have no sense of etiquette with regard to "shared space." The flight attendant who was apparently in charge of such things announced three times that we had a full flight and to "please do not put your coats in the overhead compartments" because that is shared space and people with bags needed the space. She explained that once all the bags were up we could then put up our coats. Finally, obviously frustrated that her instructions were being ignored, she announced "Ladies and gentlemen, when you reach your seat, if there are coats in the overhead compartment, please take them out and throw them on the floor. That is YOUR space."

Having experienced the joys of the MTA with my school group two years ago, this coming April we are instead renting vans and drivers for our upcoming trip in the spring

What about 'man spreading' in airplane seats? Who has sat in a seat next to a 'large' person and that large person occupies the armrest or can't fit in his/her seat with the arm rest down and the posterior occupies about half of your seat? It is not fun.
