If This is Paradise, I'll Take Cleveland Who knows when it really began? When exactly did the mischievous dark cloud arrive in Paradise, flooding the streets, drowning the beaches, and making a mockery of Jimmy Buffet and everything he stands for? Was it when my spouse and I got separated at SXM, he with the passports and I with the boarding passes, so that neither of us could move past the ace security folks in the beautiful St. Martin airport? Or perhaps it was when we arrived at our rented villa, only to discover the septic tank had backed up, producing an aroma that was literally eau de toilette? Our long-awaited trip to St. Barts began with rain. And ended with rain. And in between guess what? ñ rain. After a few days, the mood around the island had dampened to the point that only the mosquitoes were having sex. There were a few bright spots between the clouds: -Dinner at The Wall House ñ great not only for the food, (light, airy and delicious pesto gnocci; fresh fish on the rotisserie) but for the congeniality of Denis and Jack, the wonderful hosts/chefs. -The SiBarth folks who upgraded us to Villa Carette (SIB CAR) after the disastrous septic tank experience at SIB ANN (which, by the way, is awful! Hard, uncomfortable furniture, bare bones, no frills, and smelly!) Villa Carette was extremely spacious, with a fabulous view, newly redecorated furnishings, and a gorgeous pool. -Larry and Maude, new friends we met through this forum and arranged to meet in St. Barts. (Hope you guys had a few sunny days after we left!) -Vanilla Rum - brought home as many bottles as we could. Thanks to everyone who responded to this forum. This is a fantastic website, and the information I was able to gather made my trip planning a breeze! I'm now off to the tanning salon so my friends will believe I was actually in St. Barts! Good luck to all of you who will be there soon and I hope the clouds have parted and you have nothing but sunny days and starry nights! |
