Caribbean Hurricane OMAR Damage & Update

Good news - It appears that the Caribbean dodged a bullet as OMAR sped though causing only minor damage - while airports are closed for part of today as minor damage is cleaned up - it appears based on preliminary reports that life will return to normal quite rapidly.

Anguilla
The majority of the houses experienced only cosmetic damage - nothing major structurally. It sounded "like a freight train" and was quite scary according to people on the island. They were all grateful that the storm was moving swiftly and it appears that the most damage occurred on south beaches. The vegetation has taken a tremendous beating but "there was no loss of life."

The fishing boats in Sandy Ground experienced damage. Electricity is expected to be up and running by Sunday at the latest. The airport is closed.

Nevis
There was a lot of wind & rain.

St. Barthelemy
Damage assessment initially is small. Trees have been stripped of leaves and there is a lot of water. The airport is closed.

The major impact of the storm was in Gustavia where there was a lot of water over the land, especially around La Marine and the Yacht Club. The wooden walkway is now gone. There is no electricity at the moment in Gustavia. Shell Beach is gone.

Houses are being re-opened and clients who were at the Guanahani are being relocated back to their houses this afternoon.

St. John
Nothing major happened on St John. They're moving guests back in today & tomorrow, after the curfew is lifted. There was very minor wind.

St. Martin
The storm lasted about and hour and a half. There is a little water on the South side of the island, no structural damage, and trees have been stripped of their leaves (only on the South side). Both Juliana and Grand Case airports are closed.

Tortola
It was a relatively mild storm, no damage. The power is still off but anticipated to come back on today or tomorrow. The airport should be open today or tomorrow.

Virgin Gorda
VIJ just got a little rain & a little wind, nothing much. Their airport is opening at 2p.
